Trainees on Tour:
An Experience Report

Every year in August, when the new trainees are on board, a joint team event is on the agenda at HUESKER. Trainers and trainees go on tour together to strengthen cohesion. The motto: "Be part of us".

The idea had been around for some time: a joint trainee excursion to simply get to know each other better and to make HUESKER more attractive as a training company. Unfortunately, Covid threw a spanner in the works. But in August 2022, the time had come, and our first little adventure could begin.

We take the helm

In August 2022, we met at the HUESKER headquarters in Gescher. From there we took the bus to Vreden, more precisely: to the Berkel. Here it turned out that we had made exactly the right decision with our planned boat tour. As soon as we boarded our canoes, the team building process was in full swing. There was improvisation, arranging, navigating and there was a lot of laughter. Then we went down the river together. On the water, we quickly got a feel for the boats, but our hunger took over. It was a good thing that we stopped a few nautical miles downstream at a beautiful farm and ended the day with a barbecue together. We had already become a pretty good team. Over bratwurst and salad, we decided to start together again next year.

Stretched like a flying bow

No sooner said than done: In August 2023, we brought the new trainees on board, or rather, on to the party bus. Because this time our trip took us across the border to the beautiful town of Winterswijk. Even during the journey, there was enough time and space to get to know each other. But there wasn't much time to rest. When we arrived in Winterswijk, we were all excited. We were able to prove our accuracy in archery together. It's not so easy to keep calm and inner balance when everyone is watching. Many a shot went over the target. It doesn't matter, because we had hit the bull's eye with the actual goal of our venture. Together we had a lot of fun. And as we all sat together over a delicious meal, any tension dissipated. The "newcomers" among us felt very comfortable and welcome in a new team.

Be part of us!

There will be a joint team event next year. The first ideas are already being discussed. You can't start planning early enough. With up to 30 trainees in different age groups, such a project requires a lot of commitment and organizational talent. Together, we want to build a team that grows together, that works together and goes on a journey of discovery together.

Yours, Elke
