Student event to explore
the world of manufacturing

The Cleveland County production site has a lot to offer for young professionals from the surrounding area. So why wander into the distance when good work can be found right on your doorstep? With the joint project "Making It Work", more than 200 students were able to experience the working world of the local companies up close - with enthusiasm and with success.

With a population of around 100,000, Cleveland County is a rather small county in North Carolina. Population growth has been stagnating for several years now. Especially among the younger population group, the number of inhabitants is actually declining. This is an alarming development, which is also due to the fact that more and more young people are choosing to study outside the county. The advantages that an apprenticeship in your home country has to offer are often overlooked.

Students need perspectives

Even if studying in the big wide world sounds tempting, the reality is often different and is often characterized by fears about the future, dropping out, unemployment and money worries. The number of students who simply want to enter professional life as quickly as possible should not be underestimated; who want to earn money to stand on their own two feet. And it is precisely these young people that we want to offer a professional opportunity for their careers and a secure future.

Making It Work — The Job Fair for Local Heroes

Together with Cleveland Community College and local manufacturing operations, Cleveland County has set a goal: to generate interest in local manufacturing. We also want to inspire young people and show them the possibilities and processes that are part of their daily work. To do so, we contributed to the "Making It Work" project - a job fair for students, an orientation day and a day for making personal contact.

Discover the possibilities with HUESKER

This year, more than 200 students from the local high schools responded to our call and were able to immerse themselves in the world of our production and manufacturing processes for a day. A full program for all visitors: There were technical competitions, visits and, of course, a wide variety of products were taken into their own hands and tried out. We at HUESKER are particularly proud and excited that we were able to work face-to-face with the students to illustrate our production to them. Based on our case studies, we demonstrated to the curious audience how our products are created and used in practice. From the fiberglass yarn that we receive from a neighboring company, to the production process, to the finished geofabric, which is used, for example, in road construction or groundwater protection.

Beautiful! We saw many interested and astonished faces. And hopefully we'll see one or two of them again soon — as an intern or apprentice at HUESKER in Cleveland County.

Yours, Jessica
